HAIPHONG INTERNATIONAL CONTAINER TERMINAL (HICT) WELCOMED THE 350,000TH TEU

On November 25, 2019, HaiPhong International Container Terminal (HICT) welcomed the 350,000th TEU handled in a year – from the vessel E.R KOBE V.18E operated by Gold Star Lines. This is a momentous milestone marking the achievement of exceeding the set target in 2019 of HICT.

HICT is a joint venture between Saigon Newport Corporation, Mitsui O.S.K Lines, Wan Hai Lines and Itochu Corporation, has come into operation since May 13th, 2018.

Known as the largest deep-water terminal in the North of Vietnam under Lach Huyen international gateway port project, HICT has the channel depth of minus 14 meters, the turning basin diameter of 660 meters and modern facilities equipment including: 02 long quays of 750 meters, 41 ha container yard, 08 ship-to-shore gantry cranes with outreach of 65 meters, 02 fixed cranes for barge handling, 24 6+1 electronic rubber tired gantry cranes, 02 side lifters, 02 reach stackers and 30 tractors.  In addition, HICT has well-trained and highly-skilled human resources, together with an advanced terminal operation management system - TOP Expert provided by RBS Australia, and electronic port platform (ePort), which not only brings customers convenience but also reduces paperwork and payment procedures, optimizing customers’ time and cost.

Over the past 18 months, despite many difficulties, HICT has accomplished numerous remarkable achievements. So far, the terminal has accommodated 313 vessels with an average handling productivity of 80-100 moves/hour/vessel, 07 services with 9 callings/week, including 2 trans-Pacific, 2 Indian and 3 intra-Asia routes. Especially thanks to the unwavering trust of customers and the tremendous efforts of all employees, HICT has achieved the target in 2019 one month ahead of schedule - officially reaching 350,000 TEUs of throughput on November 25th, 2019.
