TAN CANG HAI PHONG INTERNATIONAL CONTAINER TERMINAL WELCOMES A NEW TRANS-PACIFIC DIRECT SERVICE TO THE WESTCOAST OF USA

On May 19th 2020, Tan Cang Hai Phong International Container Terminal (TC-HICT), belonging to Saigon Newport Corporation – an unit of Vietnam People’s Navy successfully welcomes the maiden voyage of M/V ONE CONTRIBUTION with 90,000 DWT, capacity of 8.560 TEU, LOA of 316 m which is one of 11 container vessels deployed by THE Alliance among 04 shipping lines ONE (Japan), Hapag Lloyd (Germany), Yang Ming (Taiwan) and HMM (Korea) on the Transpacific service named PS3. This provides direct service from the North and South of Vietnam to West coast of the USA on the rotation TC-HICT (Haiphong) - Los Angeles - Oakland - Pusan - Shanghai - Ningbo - Shekou - Singapore - Port Klang - Nhava Sheva - Pipavav Port - Colombo - Port Kelang - Singapore - TCIT (Cái Mép).

This is the event right after the maiden voyage of m/v CSCL BOHAI SEA launched by Cosco Shipping Lines at TC-HICT on the new AACI service in late April.

In the complicated situation of Covid-19 pandemic around the world, seriously affecting the world economy in general and Vietnam’s economy in particular, in the last two months, TC-HICT continuously welcomes two new services thanks to the tremendous efforts of all TC-HICT management, employees; especially the trust and support of THE Alliance and customers. This is an important event taking place in the context of the economy severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, demonstrating the development potential of deep-water port in the Northern Vietnam. The deployment of the new service in May is also a meaningful present to celebrate the 66th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu’s victory, the 65th anniversary of the Vietnamese Navy’s tradition and the 65th anniversary of the Haiphong’s liberation and the 130th anniversary of Ho Chi Minh President’s birthday.

Tan Cang Hai Phong International Container Terminal (TC-HICT) – a joint venture between Saigon Newport Corporation (an unit of Vietnam People’s Navy), MITSUI O.S.K Lines Ltd. (Japan), Wan Hai Lines Ltd. (Taiwan) and ITOCHU Group (Japan), has started operation since May 13th, 2018. TC-HICT is the first deep-sea terminal of Northern Vietnam’s key economic region with two main berths of 750m in length, channel depth of minus 13.4m, turning basin diameter of 660m.  The terminal is equipped with modern synchronized facilities including 6 STS cranes, 24 eRTG, 2 slewing cranes for the barge berth, along with advanced operation system “TOPX-Expert” and electronic port systems “ePORT”, “eDO”. TC-HICT can accommodate mother vessels of 12,000 TEU and 132,000 DWT. The designed annual throughput of the terminal is 1.1 million TEU.

Currently, TC-HICT serves 08 weekly services including 03 Trans-pacific services, 02 Indian services and 03 short-sea feeder services. TC-HICT always ensures high operation productivity and good service quality, that are highly appreciated by shipping lines as well as customers. TC-HICT will keep enhancing on high service quality to welcome new services and imprinting as an international transshipment terminal in the North of Vietnam on the map of transshipment hubs in the region and the world.
